Markus Schwaninger is professor emeritus of management at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland. His research and teaching are focused on the management of complex dynamic systems, with a methodological emphasis on System Dynamics and Organizational Cybernetics. Research projects are related to the design, transformation and learning of organizations, organizational intelligence, model-based management, as well as systemic issues of sustainability. Consulting and training mandates span all sectors, - industry, services, health, information, public and NGOs, around the world. He has supervised or co-supervised doctoral projects at leading Universities (University of St. Gallen; ETHZ & EPFL-Swiss Polytechnic Institutes, Zurich & Lausanne, Switzerland; University of Bochum, Germany; National University, Singapore; Universidad de los Andes, Bogotá, Colombia; etc.). Markus is the author of more than 200 publications, in six languages, including Intelligent Organizations (Springer). He has lectured widely, on four continents, and is involved in international, transdisciplinary research projects. Markus founded the System Dynamics Group at the University of St. Gallen. He is on the board of directors of the World Organization of Systems and Cybernetics, a managing editor of the System Dynamics Review, and a member of various advisory boards.
